Smoke Fired Vessel | SOLD

Large smoke-fired vessel with sea grass rope detail.

I hand built this piece from white stoneware clay using the coil method. I burnished it with a smooth stone before firing in an electric kiln. I then smoke fired it in a metal drum, setting it alight to burn slowly for 12 hours. The black smoke effect is created from fire licking the surface. The vessel is unglazed and porous.

Due to the nature of the small base and large body I'd recommend displaying on a flat surface for sturdiness.
